โ9:00am-12:00pm
โ3 El Camino Ave, Sacramento, CA 95815-2025, United States
ALL HANDS ON DECK, SEVEN-DAY CLEANUP (Oct 2 to 8)!
We are excited to again join in this HUGE cleanup of this trashed section of Steelhead Creek. This should be the BIGGEST cleanup of the year and will remove trash from the floodplain ahead of the rising waters!
This cleanup series is organized by RCWA, Dr. Roland Brady (Friends of Steelhead Creek), the Central Valley Water Quality Control Board, Reclamation District 1000, American River Flood Control District, the County of Sacramento and the City of Sacramento.
The work site will be on the EAST bank of Steelhead Creek. We will meet at the levee gate on the EAST side of Steelhead Creek. PLEASE be on time (early ok) since we have to lock the gate behind us. At 9:00 am SHARP, we will caravan to the cleanup site. Late comers will not be accommodated. Folks that might need to leave early are welcome.
The event will range in difficulty from easy to advanced and is not be suitable for children under the age of 16. We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. As there is water in the creek, participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to get into the water. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on our Page, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.

October 6, 2026 8:45 pm – October 7, 2026 12:00 am
3645 Fulton Ave, Sacramento, CA 95821, USA
We excited to return to Arcade Creek through the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex, and the GOLDEN opportunity as returned! On the afternoons of Monday October 5 and Tuesday October 6, most of the golfing activity near the creek will be paused for course maintenance. Therefore, the folks at Haggin Oaks have invited us to hop in the creek to remove the trash and debris.
We will meet at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex main parking lot and head onto the course promptly at 1:45 pm. Therefore, please arrive at these cleanup sessions at least 10-15 mins early.
AGE LIMIT: This event is not suitable for minors under 12 years old. Minors 12 and older are invited, but must be supervised by a responsible adult during the entire event.
Please bring lots of hydration and only do what you are comfortable doing. As always, you can leave whenever you want or need. This cleanup location has some challenging access spots into the creek and may require a rope to get into the channel, however, there are some flat spots as well for easy pickings.
We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy waterproof footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available. If you have a cultivator or shovel, those could also be handy. Participants will be required to wear rain boots or waders if they intend to get into water, if any. Entry into any waters is always optional.
As with all events shared on our Page, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously.

This cleanup series is organized by RCWA, Dr. Roland Brady (Friends of Steelhead Creek), the Central Valley Water Quality Control Board, Reclamation District 1000, American River Flood Control District, the County of Sacramento and the City of Sacramento.
The work site will be on the LEFT/EAST bank of Steelhead Creek. We will meet at the levee gate on the NORTHWEST side of ARCADE CREEK at Norwood Avenue (yes, Arcade Creek).
There will be plenty of hard-core badgering (digging out the big stuff), but also lots of easy detail work along the flat floodplain above the creek.
Thank you! ๐

Bufferlands Open Trail Day
Bufferlands Open Trail Day
October 17, 2026 2:30 pm – 10:30 pm
Open Trail Day is a great opportunity to explore some of the Bufferlands. We will have several miles of trails open for you to hike at your own pace. Our biologists and docents will be out on the trails to help you find your way and to answer any nature-related questions. This is a great time to see Fall colors as our forests begin to change from green to gold. The trails will span through riparian forests with trees over 300 years old, oak woodlands, and seasonal wetlands.ย Many species of songbirds, waterfowl, and shorebirds can be seen this time of year.
The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. and close at 3:30 p.m. Event and parking are free. Please sign in at the check-in table and get your trail map. Dress for the weather and bring a water bottle.ย There will be no food vendors on-site, but feel free to pack a picnic or trail snacks.
This Open Trails Day offers a rare opportunity to explore SacSewerโs Bufferlands, a protected nature preserve that is only open to the public during select special events. This limited access helps protect sensitive habitats while allowing visitors to experience the areaโs wetlands, riparian forests, and wildlife in a meaningful way.
No pets, please!ย For all Bufferlands events, we respectfully request that you please leave your dogs and other pets at home.
Wild animals are within the hiking trails.
Directions: Take I-5 or Highway 99 south from Sacramento. Exit at Cosumnes River Blvd. Take Cosumnes River Blvd west to Freeport Blvd. Take Freeport Blvd south, past the golf course and the small town of Freeport. Turn left at the signs opposite Cliffโs Marina (8651 River Rd, Sacramento, CA 95832). Follow the signs to the parking area.

EGAT: North Laguna Creek Cleanup
EGAT: North Laguna Creek Cleanup
October 17, 2026 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
8755 Center Pkwy, Sacramento, CA 95823, USA
Sometimes we return to our popular spots to do a little maintenance and mop up. These areas are often heavily used, and frequented by campers and then abandoned.
We will clear trash from abandoned camps as well as regular trail and street trash. Weโll be looking under the bushes, along the fence line, along the grass edge to get this place looking good again. For anybody willing to head down to the shoreline going westward, youโll find some washout trash as well as some tumbled down trash from camps.
Best places to park would be across the street from the Laguna Creek Apartments at the UA Laguna Village theaters. You can also park along Center Parkway just west of the tiny park where we will be staging the trash.
We recommend wearing rubber boots since we will be in weeds and foxtails, and a little bit of stickers. You can also wear hiking boots with gaiters to protect your ankles and legs from stickers.
The terrain will be somewhat uneven, since we will be occasionally off trail and down slopes.
We hope to work westward to the channel that has trash and some rocky slopes (and across Center Parkway to the channel on the other side), and then eastward all the way to Bruceville Road. Cleaning along Bruceville Road will be a bonus!
New to cleanups? Please arrive early to get signed in and get gear. If you have supplies, please bring your own gloves, buckets, bags, but we have items for you. Loaner buckets, gloves, grabbers, vests, bags.
Please wear appropriate clothing, boots ๐ฅพ or closed-toe shoes (as recommended above), sunscreen, bug spray, hats, and bring your own water.
All cleanups are done at your own risk, but safety first! Our trash safety talk starts promptly at 9:00 am.
See you soon!!
Letโs Clean Elk Grove together!

7010 Auburn Blvd, Citrus Heights, CA 95621, USA
๐๐ We will be returning to Arcade Creek in Citrus Heights, along with our amazing Friday Host Ali, area creek steward Lilia and fantastic event partner, Republic Services. *** PLEASE NOTE: We will be meeting and parking behind the Walmart Garden Center, at the southeast side of the property. Arrive early to ensure you can find us. There will be water in all portions of the creek, so hip or chest waders are recommended. If you are unable to get in the water, there will plenty of work to do on land. This will be a medium to difficult cleanup within the creek channel for those who want a challenge. Lots of easy trash pickinsโ found along the top bank for those who prefer a less strenuous cleanup. Once the piles are made, we will haul everything to the dumpster provided by Republic Services (thank you!). AGE LIMIT: This event is not suitable for minors under 12 years old. Minors 12 and older are invited, but MUST be supervised by a responsible adult during the entire event. As with all events shared on our Page, participation is performed solely at your own risk. 6520 Van Maren Ln, Citrus Heights, CA 95621, USA
Please join creek steward Lilia and our badger team as we return to Citrus Heights to continue our progress through a new channel section of Arcade Creek.
The project area is mostly shady! ๐๐ณ with tons of legacy trash from old encampments and illegal dumping, but some new debris also washed in over the winter.. There may be some shallow water in the creek, so boots are recommended. Waders likely won’t be needed, but please bring them along if you have them.
AGE LIMIT: This event is not suitable for minors under 14 years old. Minors 14 and older are invited, but must be supervised by a responsible adult during the entire event.

EGAT: Bufferlands Collab Cleanup 23
EGAT: Bufferlands Collab Cleanup 23
October 25, 2026 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm
8320 Delta Shores Cir S, Sacramento, CA 95832, USA
Save the date for the 6th event for the 2026 Bufferlands collaboration cleanup series with EGAT, RCWA and Sac Sewer. Meetup location will be in the farthest, SW corner of Delta Shores Shopping Center. Look for our cars behind the vacant store previously called โAt Homeโ. We will gather there and caravan in. Similar to September 27, we will caravan into the Bufferlands to get close to our access area. We will assess and clean a familiar starting spot along Morrison Creek. Parking will be on a level surface, and we hope to make it further upstream, however, there will be plenty to do along the shoreline, grasslands, and wooded areas. Boots are strongly recommended for protection against weeds, reeds, and should you be in the water, you will want your boots. There will be an opportunity for those who wish to wear waders, but the mud is rather muddy ๐คญ We will once again use the boat to reach some tricky items further out and to help transport volunteers to the opposite side. ๐๐ฝ Join us as we continue our partnership with EGAT, River City Waterway Alliance, and the Sacramento Area Sewer District to clean up the Bufferlands. Sundayโs event continues our efforts to address the trash and debris buildup at Sac Sewerโs Bufferlands ecosystem. https://www.regionalsan.com/bufferlands This beautiful ecosystem, fed by several creeks, can also become a graveyard for trash and debris washed down from upstream storm water systems and encampments. This event is our 23rd visit overall by dedicated volunteers. Our goal is to remove as much trash from the Bufferlands and promote efforts to prevent trash from entering the ecosystem in the future. Please arrive *prior* to 9:00 am. The best place to meet will be behind the vacant store โAt Homeโ in the SW corner of the shopping center. From there, we will either caravan or carpool further into the site. Latecomers will not be accommodated as gates will be locked after we enter. If anybody needs to leave early, that will be fine, as we have a way to depart through the gates. If we are near water, anyone with a kayak or canoe is authorized to bring one if they’d like to collect trash from the water in tandem with the trash barge. Volunteers who have yet to participate here will need to arrive early to sign waivers, and everyone will need to sign the event sheet. Please bring your own canteen into the cleanup location. Water and Porta Potty will be available on site. The event will range in difficulty from easy to advanced and might not be suitable for children under the age of 12. There will be plenty of hard-core badgering in the muddy creek (digging out the big stuff), but also lots of easy detail work along the flat floodplain and areas next to the creek. As with all events shared on our Pages, participation is performed solely at your own risk. Please place safety FIRST and do only what you feel comfortable doing. Moreover, participants will be required to sign a Release and Waiver form if they have not done so previously. Stay tuned for updates to this event as itโs weather dependent, thank you! Fishing Line and Trash Cleanup @ Urrutia Pond
October 29, 2026 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Camp Pollock
๐ฟ SACC Volunteer Cleanup: Protecting Urrutia Pond & Our Waterbirds๐ฟ
Join the Sacramento Area Creeks Council (SACC) for a special volunteer cleanup at Urrutia Pond along the American River Parkway!
With special permission from the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency (SAFCA), the owners of Urrutia Pond, weโll be working along the shoreline to remove discarded fishing line, hooks, and trash.
The property is generally well maintained, so our focus will be on addressing a less visible but serious threat to wildlife. Discarded fishing line and hooks can injure, entangle, and kill waterbirds and other wildlife.
With water levels now lower than theyโve been all summer, this is the perfect opportunity to clean the shoreline before wintering waterbirds arrive. Every piece of fishing line we remove helps make this a safer place for the birds and wildlife that depend on our waterways.
๐
Date: Thursday, October 29
๐ Time: 9 a.m. โ 12 p.m.
๐ Meeting Location:
Camp Pollock
1501 Northgate Blvd.

– Cleanup supplies and trash bags
– An opportunity to make a meaningful difference for local wildlife and our river corridor
๐ Please Bring
– Drinking water
– A hat and sunscreen
– Sturdy shoes or rubber boots
– Gloves and grabbers, if you have them
๐ Everyone is welcome! No experience is necessary. Whether this is your first cleanup or youโre one of our regular volunteers, weโd love to have you join the team.
Please invite your family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors. The more hands we have, the more fishing line and trash we can remove!
Waivers: SACC and SAFCA waivers will be completed at the beginning of the event.
๐ Together, we can protect, restore, and care for our waterwaysโone cleanup at a time!

RCWA: Ali's Friday Arcade Crk Cleanup @Conneticut Dr
October 30, 2026 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm
5181 Connecticut Dr, Sacramento, CA 95841, USA
Please join Ali for this MAINTENANCE cleanup of Arcade Creek just upstream of Arcade Creek Park – the upstream portion of Aliโs original adopted section! We will continue to partner with Arcade Creek – Adopt A Creek Project to focus on another infamously trashed stretch of this 18-plus mile creek.
We will park on Connecticut Drive, then cautiously walk to our cleanup spot at the creek (either via the nearby back alleye or via Madison Avenue). From there, we will follow the trash upstream, removing litter and bulk items both in the creek and adjacent thereto. This cleanup location has some challenging access spots into the creek and may require a rope to get into the channel, however, there are some flat spots as well for easy pickinโ.
AGE LIMIT: This event is not suitable for minors under 12 years old. Minors 12 and older are invited, but must be supervised by a responsible adult during the entire event.
We will provide bags, but please bring along your sturdy footwear, grabbers, buckets, and gloves – a limited number of loaner buckets and grabbers may be available.
