🌿 SACC Volunteer Cleanup: Protecting Urrutia Pond & Our Waterbirds🌿

Join the Sacramento Area Creeks Council (SACC) for a special volunteer cleanup at Urrutia Pond along the American River Parkway!

With special permission from the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency (SAFCA), the owners of Urrutia Pond, we’ll be working along the shoreline to remove discarded fishing line, hooks, and trash.

The property is generally well maintained, so our focus will be on addressing a less visible but serious threat to wildlife. Discarded fishing line and hooks can injure, entangle, and kill waterbirds and other wildlife.

With water levels now lower than they’ve been all summer, this is the perfect opportunity to clean the shoreline before wintering waterbirds arrive. Every piece of fishing line we remove helps make this a safer place for the birds and wildlife that depend on our waterways.

📅 Date: Thursday, October 29
🕘 Time: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

📍 Meeting Location:
Camp Pollock
1501 Northgate Blvd.
Sacramento, CA 95833

🧤 We’ll Provide
– Cleanup supplies and trash bags
– An opportunity to make a meaningful difference for local wildlife and our river corridor

🎒 Please Bring
– Drinking water
– A hat and sunscreen
– Sturdy shoes or rubber boots
– Gloves and grabbers, if you have them

💚 Everyone is welcome! No experience is necessary. Whether this is your first cleanup or you’re one of our regular volunteers, we’d love to have you join the team.

Please invite your family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors. The more hands we have, the more fishing line and trash we can remove!

Waivers: SACC and SAFCA waivers will be completed at the beginning of the event.

💙 Together, we can protect, restore, and care for our waterways—one cleanup at a time!

We hope to see you Thursday! 🌎🐦
